The subtle vignette, postal marks and washed out colour palette add to the vintage appeal of this photograph of a period children’s nursery.
Again a simple image with a well selected low viewpoint and a clever composition to include only three main elements, the foreground rocking horse and the background cot and cupboard with the horse overlapping the background features to add a pleasing sense of depth.
A first-rate image and well deserving of a top ten place.
A lovely photograph of a bicycle repair shop given a vintage look by way of the low contrast monochrome presentation, image grain and washed out edges and corners.
The photograph is full of interest and detail to hold the attention and Is given another dimension by the view through the open door to the bicycles in the yard beyond.
Well done on your top ten placing.
Many thanks to all who entered the contest and for supplying such a variety of wonderful period interiors. As usual I had great difficulty selecting a top ten such was the quality of the entries.
In my judging I was looking for interesting interiors, well composed and with a pleasing balance of light and shade. I also favoured those images where the photographer had taken the time to add ageing effects as requested in the contest brief..
This, my first placed entry, may not have the scratches, folds and distressed borders of some of the other top ten images but it still has a genuine vintage look courtesy of the sepia tint and heavy vignette. Above all though it’s a superb interior shot and one that I wish was my own.
It’s such a simple image with three very well balanced features, the gorgeous round window top left, the bed bottom right and the fireplace in between. Topping it all though is the quality and balance of light which is quite beautiful.
Well done on a first rate image !!

Another very simple children’s room given an authentic vintage feel by the subtle sepia tint, vignette and foxing.
I especially like the composition here with the diagonal line of the bed leading the eye into the frame to the pair of teddy-bears and then onto the two framed pictures on the wall. It’s a clever composition and very easy on the eye.
Well done on your top ten placing.
This is another image that benefits from its simplicity. A bed, a chamber pot, an umbrella and the hint of a window to put the shadows into context, what more could you possibly want?
The low contrast monochrome presentation, the faded edges and the crease marks all add to the requested vintage feel. If I had one criticism then I would suggest that the text is a little intrusive, maybe reduce the font size or omit the text altogether?
Either way a fine image and well worthy of a top ten placing.
