Photographers in Action

May 2024

Self portrait - I'm really interested in the framing choice of your photo, especially in the context of Photographer in Action. You've presented the two narratives well in this tight cropping. There are many female photographers who have been expressive in this way, please look at the work of Francesca Woodman!

This is a tremendous entry and a gentle moment captured. Your composition and framing is successful here. A key point is the positioning of the fox and hat, a perfect continuation of contact, keeping the eye aligned within this scene. Great job!

Congrats! This was a clear winner for me within this category. Your framing here mirrors two scenes, the crowd and the painting, both which imply a chaotic narrative with a big divide. The lighting is very similar to the piece which has made this very successful. Well done!

**This contest is open to photographers ranked between 1 and 250 in this week’s Leaderboard.** We’re turning the camera on the image makers themselves, and looking at how others see us when we’re busy with our cameras to our eyes, squatting down, craning our necks, with elbows and legs akimbo. It might be a self-portrait with camera in hand, an image you took of a favourite shooting buddy, or maybe you just stumbled across Joel Meyerowitz plying his trade on a New York sidewalk and turned the tables on him!
