Post Boxes and Mailboxes

There were very few detail shots of post boxes entered in this competition but this was definitely the most interesting. Layers upon layers of paint that is all flaking away. The remaining patches of red showing. The barely visible words. All this goes together to make an image I keep wanting to look at.

Interesting concept. It is obviously set up as you can see the peanuts but there is nothing wrong with that and it is still a fun shot. This is definitely the strongest in the series that you submitted. This is mainly because of the letters more natural positioning - with the letter half hanging out while the squirrel hangs down from above it looks like it is trying to steal it.

Interesting image and location. I bet it was really hard to choose the composition and the point of focus. I think I would have been here for ages trying different things. It works really well in black and white as there are no colours to distract from the lines. I would suggest the image would benefit from being totally symmetrical as it is slightly off center. If you like it being off center then maybe make it more so because at the moment my eye thinks it's centered before realising it isn't.

**This contest is open to photographers ranked between 251 and 1000 in this week’s Leaderboard.** The thrill of posting a letter to a friend, sending it on a long journey, maybe to a foreign land, and all made possible with a simple stamp and a walk to your local post box. Nowadays post boxes and mailboxes are more associated with getting Amazon deliveries, bills and junk mail, or sending something back because it doesn’t quite fit, but they are still very much part of our lives, and range from the plain and functional, to the ornate and nostalgic.
