This vibrant image reveals a more elegant, graceful side of prayer.
When it comes to composition, I like how the fencing above and the line of candles below emerge from the corners of the frame, leading the viewer's eye towards the middle of the scene.
Ideally, it might have been interesting to see the woman placed a little more within the frame rather than at the edge. Her posture, however, facing the middle of the scene, helps it feel natural and still works well.
The colour contrast is lovely. The blue of her dress stands out beautifully against the warm tones of the temple, from the gold to the orange around the Buddha.
This is an elegant prayer scene, rich in detail, with plenty for the eye to explore.
With its unique perspective and clean execution, this image easily stands out from the rest.
The high viewpoint works really well, revealing just how many people gather together for Jumatul Bidah. It shows how prayer can go beyond the personal experience, and bring entire communities together in celebration.
The composition is neat and intentional, with the pillars shooting up towards the opposite corners of the frame as if to anchor the scene.
There's a lot to take in, but it never feels overwhelming. There's a sense of order within the busyness, inviting the viewer to pause and explore the scene.
This image easily stands out from the rest thanks to its dramatic use of light and the intense emotion it conveys.
The lighting is beautiful and unique, catching just one side of the subject, yet revealing shape, texture and expression. It also catches the smoke as it curls against the black background.
The intense shadows add intimacy and depth, enhancing the sense of intimacy whilst gifting this image with a refined, fine art quality that sets it apart from the rest.
A great capture that easily stands out amongst hundreds.

Common to all religions is time spent either in quiet personal communion with, and appeal to, one’s God, or in meditation, seeking to still the workings of the mind and experience one’s consciousness more simply. Photographing people in these private acts of devotion and contemplation is not always easy, but creates powerful imagery that reminds us of the importance of religion to so many in the world.
