So many of our celebrations are religious in nature, with ceremonies forming the epicentre around which everything else unfolds. Some are celebrations of the religion and its deities themselves, with parades through streets, pilgrimages made, and homage paid. Others mark stages of our lives - arriving in the world, coming of age, finding our life partner, and saying goodbye to loved ones.
