After some deliberation, I settled on this shot as my winning image. I love the black and white processing here and the clean vertical lines which work really well with their diagonal counterparts. The texture of the roof tiles is absolutely spot on also with - if I'm not mistaken - a slight turning down of texture and clarity. Yet another shot that would pass most of us by and which, by some, may be considered a little mundane....but I love it...and well done!
Meet the judge
Whilst I very much like the composition of this shot, the one element that stood out for me are the gaps between the buildings being taken up by green foliage as opposed to a street or alleyway. I also like the warmer tones you have here which show off the buildings and their uniformly-tiled roofs really well. Well done, and my thanks for entering this contest.
Yet another really good example, I feel, of crowded roof tops and another stand-out shot for me of that genre. It's tightly cropped and therefore ensures the audience's attention remains on the rooftops contained within the image. We all like a bit of contrast, but there is little in evidence within this shot....meaning that detail is in abundance from top to bottom and therefore an element that works well here. Very nice - and my thanks for your entry.
Whilst I very much the crop here and therefore the way the terraced-housing rooflines criss-cross this image what stood out for me were the shadows on the chimneys which have somehow managed to accentuate their presence upon the rooftops in question. Whilst I feel it works well in B&W I wonder what the colour version would look like? I like it and my thanks for your entry.
This shot narrowly missed out on the top spot. There were, as you would expect, a proliferation of shots containing multiple roofs within a city or town - but this was the standout image of that particular genre for me. I love the composition, with the 4-windowed building just left of centre being a good focal point. The processing is particularly good I feel with the monochrome tones you have here. Might it benefit a little with a further tighter crop from the top down to focus the viewer's attention a little more ...? However, that doesn't matter, and is in no way intended as a criticism - it's a great well-framed shot. Well done, and my thanks for entering this contest.

Let me see your best photos of rooftops. Please ensure your shots focus on rooftops, not wider shots that just happen to contain rooftops. I very much look forward to seeing and judging your entries.
