Seasonally Frozen Water

This close-up image caught my eye immediately, probably because of the splashes of bright red contrasting so well with the clear ice. Taking such close-up shots is one of the great joys of the cold weather season. This is a prime example of how to do it well by keeping it simple and just focus on what's right in front of you - nature has done all the hard work for you.

When I saw this image, I was intrigued by what circumstances had created such strange shape, I'm so glad that you've provided details in your description. This photo has a real 'Wow' factor, esp. as the sun is obviously shining bright on the ice sculpture. Great entry, thanks.

Another great example of a close-up, that kept it simple. The bizarre shapes nature creates from the freezing water, are embellishments enough. This image has fascinated me in its intricacy, nothing to distract the eye from the subject of the frozen water as part of the cold season.

Wow, you've certainly waited for the right time to take your photo, as it is the position of the sun, which gives this image its glorious iridescent shine. It would, of course, also look good without the sunlight - but not half as good as it is with the sun at this angle, perfectly done, thank you.

When I first looked through the images, I didn't give this photo much attention, it was another frozen lake amongst many. The more and closer I looked through them all, it was this image that has really grown on me. The details in the front half of the image are simply amazing, standing out so clearly against the contrasting background of the landscape. To really provide the knockout you also included a sunrise/sunset into the image. Simply sensational and my worthy winner.
