This image has a lot going for it. The collection of old tools meet the brief, although ironicly I suspect they aren't as sharp as they once were. The composition is well done, with the old burlap style cloth underneath nicely complementing the antique toning of the image. Another great example of creative thinking.

There's no better animal to represent sharpness than a crocodile and it's nasty set of teeth.. I presume the photo was taken in some sort of zoo? Getting the side view at the water line is about as perfect as it comes. The composition is very well balanced with sharp focus throughout the croc, and the slight motion blur in the background gives the image some nice dynamics. It's one of the best crocodile images I've seen. Well done.

There were many images using barbed wire fences in some form. Having been the victim of barbed wire in my younger years living in a rural farming area, this photograph definitely brings back some painful memories! The simple, stark composition is nicely done and well balanced. Going with a greasy, dirty hand complements the colour tones in the background. I sure hope the blood is fake though!

A very nice example of those nasty thorns. In this image, simplicity is the key. Overall focus is spot on, showing lots of detail. The choice of side lighting works well and helps bring out the details in the thorns and skin of the branch. The lighting also enhances the vibrant green hues. Well done.

There were a lot of images of thorns of various types, but this particular shot was my favourite. You've certainly met the brief as far as "sharpness" is concerned. Ouch! You obviously spent a lot of time with the composition, creating an impressive "meeting of the thorns". Using f/16 to increase the depth of field was a good choice, resulting in a large number of pin sharp thorns.. I also like the monochrome treatment, revealing nice details on the surface of the cactus and the thorns. Very impressive, and a worthy first place finish.

There were many pictures of cacti and their nasty needles, but this was one of my favourites. Converting the image to an abstract was a great idea. The treatment you've used to create the subtle blurring effect is nicely done, enhancing the overall look.. I always appreciate some creative thinking.
