A bold and confident approach to the theme. I love the richness of the colours and tones. The difference in textures between the hull and its smooth reflection was an inspired use of slow shutter speed for creative effect. Most of all I love the composition and sense of symmetry that perfectly captures the essence of 'ship-ness'

I totally love this image and would happily see it in the top ten. However, I felt this really was clearly a boat and while we don't want to get too bogged down with semantics about what is a ship and boat this seemed a little too far to the boat end of the scale. It is, however. cracking shot and I love the atmosphere, clever composition and mono treatment. Good work.

Wow, this image, with its fairly formal composition really expresses the sheer enormity of the world's big cargo ships and the number of containers they carry across the oceans. This sense of scale really comes across with this head-on shot. Good work.

The sublime light and harmonious colour palette are what made this striking image stand out to me. The composition is spot on too. The subject matter speaks eloquently to the massive scale of global shipping and all that it entails. Good work.

Ships in dry dock are simply fascinating and offer the rare chance to see a vessel literally out of water. The photographer has done an excellent job of showing off the ship from this unusual perspective The handling of tones, colour and composition is excellent. good work.

This is a great image. What an opportunity to explore this ship breaking yard. The composition cleverly uses shapes to create a frame within a frame. The light and colour have been skillfully handled too. All in all good work, well done.

This is an excellent shot of a ship in the Panama canal. I have just transited the canal myself and know firsthand just how difficult it is to capture the spirit of the place. Great composition and use of light and colour. Thankfully your lenses weren't steamed up (as mine were for the first lock! ). Great work.

An interesting abstract study in red. Ship and boat hulls can be good pickings for abstract photographers - which is clearly evident in this study. I love the simplicity of the composition and the carefully considered positioning of the white and black lines to create balance.

This is a simple but very effective image that really speaks to a sense of 'journey'. The wake and curve of the ferry create some lovely leading lines and give the image a sense of momentum. I also really like the inclusion of the cars which also speaks to the notion of 'journey' - good work.

What a truly amazing shot. This sunken vessel is deeply fascinating to look at in its own right. However, the sense of scale and other worldness that the floating 'frogman' adds creates wonderful additional layers of visual delight! Excellent work in tough conditions!

The largest vessels that sail our seas are ships. Larger than boats (a boat being, by one definition, small enough to be carried on a ship) they haul our cargo, protect our territories, carry sightseers from luxury port to luxury port, and much more besides. Images of the whole or any part of a ship, inside or out, are welcomed, and let’s not worry too much about where the crossover between boat and ship occurs, but the emphasis in this contest is certainly on larger vessels.

Excellent use of a drone to capture this unusual and striking point of view. I love the formal arrangement of the sunken vessel in the centre of the frame. The colour palette is sublime and the waves breaking on the bow make a great focal point.

I applaud the way the photographer has made visual sense of this seemingly chaotic scene. The arrangement of shapes and especially the circles have created a coherent and harmonious composition with a near-abstract vibe that also feels kind of surreal. Beautiful work. Well done.

I really love this shot, the way the ship is only partially visible through the gap in the buildings is inspired. With my critical hat on I wish more attention had been paid to the horizon and verticals and they were straight. It's a relatively easy fix. While I have a fairly cavalier attitude to convention and 'rules' in this instance I think it would have helped. Otherwise, excellent work.

This is a great composition and I love how all the elements come together, the sun the statues, the ship and the wind turbines are all harmoniously layered and arranged in the frame. It's a shame the image is slightly over-processed, with some signs and haloing and artefacts, maybe from over sharpening. Otherwise a wonderful image. Good work.
