This photograph is striking for its bold and expressive use of colour & carefully controlled exposure. The warm amber tones that illuminate the trees and grass contrast beautifully with the deep, velvety night sky, creating a compelling complementary colour scheme that immediately draws the viewer in. The depth of field is thoughtfully chosen, keeping both the buildings and the glowing landscape sharp, while the gentle blur in the wind-stirred grass adds atmospheric movement. Composition-wise, positioning the buildings near the bottom of the frame guides the viewer’s eye upward, highlighting the sense of scale and the shapes of the landscape. Altogether, this is a fantastically executed, one-of-a-kind, atmospheric image that certainly leaves a lasting impression in the viewer. A well deserved first place.
This photograph is a beautifully minimalist capture of small buildings that is full of character and charm. The bold yellow and muted red buildings stand out strikingly against the soft grey gradient of the sky, creating an harmonious and thoughtfully crafted palette. The composition, with its vast negative space, feels both unique and serene, giving the viewer room to breathe and instilling a sense of peace and calm. Every element sits with intention, making this image beautifully unique, with the falling snow adding a final touch of magic.

This photograph beautifully showcases the charm of small buildings, especially when set against such a breathtaking backdrop. The colour palette is pleasant and exceptionally well balanced, with the cool turquoise of the mountains contrasting harmoniously with the warm tones on the trees and wooden structure. The depth of field is expertly controlled, keeping both the cabin and the distant peaks crisp enough so every elements can tell its story. Sharpness is impressive throughout, capturing fine textures in the timber, grass and rocky cliffs. The composition is well thought-out, following the rule of thirds by having the building off to the right, so the hill rolls into the bottom corner of the frame, and the serene scene unfolds to the left. This is a wonderful capture that showcases technical mastery whilst conveying idyllic peace and serenity.

**This contest is open to photographers ranked between 1 and 250 in this week’s Leaderboard.** Big, iconic architecture might get all the headlines, but back in the real world the majority of buildings being built are much smaller, and the efforts of the architects and construction firms responsible are often unsung. But all their skills are in evidence when a building on a small scale successfully achieves everything required of its larger cousin, just within a reduced volume. And as questions of energy usage, land availability and construction costs become ever more important, smaller buildings seem to provide a lot of the answers. Acceptable images can be of any small building, from a house, to a folly, to public buildings and beyond, and can be buildings of any age. Both exterior and interior shots wlecomed.
