This is a very nicely thought out image,the whole image is very pleasing to the eye with the countryside spread out as the backdrop and the engine and smoke in the foreground blending with the snow on the railway bank, it looks like a getting in the right position shot and patiently waiting for the right moment. Well done on a top ten placing.
For me this is a super scene of three locomotives billowing steam to haul the carriages to climb the high terrain with the hills in the distance under a cloudy sky, the scene takes you back to a time when life seemed less hurried. I like the framing, getting into the right position and clicking the shutter at the right moment which was very well achieved by the photographer, I can imagine patiently waiting for the train to pass under the bridge to the (right of shot) and snapping at just the right moment to get every part of the train in frame ,overall there is a sense of power and nostalgia to this image and worthy of my number 1 spot,very well done.
This is a great image, climbing hills requires more steam and this image really gives the impression of power, i like the angle the photographer has achieved,it adds a dynamic feel to the shot making the viewer look up towards the billowing smoke, the black and white conversion was well done too with great effect adding drama to the whole image. The fact the shot was taken in the winter months adds to the feel with bare trees framing the train and smoke nicely in the centre of shot and for me it's worthy of my 2nd place, very well done.

Please do not include people in the photo. I will be looking for the angle of your shot, the clarity and the overall composition. Try to capture the age of steam and the smoke billowing out where possible. HDR is acceptable in this challenge. Please include a title and description. This is my kind of shot,taken from a low perspective giving the subject a sense of towering height, it's a very crisp image with great clarity achieved in the black and white conversion ,this is one of those shots that show you don't need the whole train to make an impact, for me you have achieved a super image that is well worth my 3rd place, very well done.
There is something very appealing about this image,the sepia tone is very well achieved and the postcard affect makes one think you could put a stamp on it and send it off, the scene is very simple with just the engine and the little building behind and shows in this case,less is more. I felt in my heart of hearts it was worthy of a commended so very well done.
