What I love about this photo is the look of anticipation, beautifully captured, on the faces of the two young girls. Their eyes fixed on the the vendor's actions. The picture is nicely cropped, The steam from the pot is caught beautifully in the sunlight and the coloured uniforms stand out well against the grey background of the wall. A nice capture.
Firstly, Thank you all for entering the competition, the standard of entry was very high. Before I review the winning entry, I would just like to comment, that there were many excellent photographs entered into the contest making my job quite a challenge. However some of these entries were excellent photographs, but of vendor's cycle carts, not Handcarts, so unfortunately not on brief. There is certainly scope for someone to hold a competition for vendor cycle carts in the future, but I had to stick to the Handcart brief. In addition, there were some excellent scenes of vendors in marketplaces, but it was not clear in the images that they were selling from a Handcart, so again I could not judge these entries..
First Place: I love the composition of this picture and it stood out right from my initial reviews. The foreground interest of the vendor and handcart plays against the background stripes of sand and sea, with the second figure adding some extra background interest. The whole has a subdued hue with not too much colour saturation, which can spoil such compositions. A great picture, fully on brief. Well done.
I love black and white photography and this is a fine example, The stripes in the sand act as leading lines taking you into the picture and the grey clouds make an excellent backdrop. The whole makes for a very dynamic photograph. I personally would have perhaps centred the subject a little more in the frame, but nevertheless a fine shot. Well Done.

Many street vendors over the years have used handcarts to sell their wares. Let me see your best photographs of vendor's handcarts, of any age, whether still in use or not. The photograph can include the vendor and other people in the shot, but please no other forms of handcart, only those being used to carry products to be sold. Entries can be in colour or black and white.
