Stunning Landscapes

September 2021

This is absolutely dripping in atmosphere, pardon the pun. The low cloud hugging the mountain looks fantastic and that fast flowing white water is exposed perfectly. I love that you've used a fast shutter speed and resisted a long exposure, it's a refreshing change from seeing blurry water!

How can I not include this in the top 10? I mean look at it, it's amazing! I admire the effort that's gone into the planning, execution and processing of this image, I definitely don't have the patience for it. Great job and well done to your friend too for assisting you!

What an absolutely wonderful image! Lovely reflections, calm water and that low mist just look amazing together. The subtle warm tones in the clouds give a nice flash of colour throughout and the whole image just oozes atmosphere and mood!

There are tons of great images in this competition but I just kept coming back to this one time and time again. Moraine Lake is an unbelievably popular place to shoot but it's rare that we see a shot that's different and so full of mood and atmosphere. I love the look of this, it's framed really well and feels really balanced. Great shot :)

Kilchurn castle is a magic place to spend a morning when the conditions are as good as this. Compositionally it's a location that lends itself to so much, but the wide vista is super impressive with those mirror-perfect reflections! The low mist gives a nice added element too.

This is the second Moraine Lake shot in the top 10, I absolutely love this shot and I'm pretty sure it's been in the top 10 of another competition I've judged in the past which is a testament to the image. It's exposed wonderfully, and you've caught some truly beautiful conditions. It could do with a touch of counter-clockwise rotation as it's leaning to the right a bit but that's a minor point on an otherwise stunning photo.

I absolutely love this, it's a very well photographed location as I'm sure you're aware but for good reason! It's framed beautifully, the waterfall and stream lead your eye through the image nicely, and that sky with the flash of light on Tryfan is awesome! I'm glad you resisted the urge to whack the shadows up and left it moody, so often we see images that have been processed to death and look unnatural but this looks amazing, really nicely done.

The views from the summit of Passo Giau are nothing short of stunning! It's one of my favourite places to visit when I'm running tours there. I love this shot, the low cloud hugging Ra Gusela and the surrounding range is just magic. Nicely processed too, I quite like the deep shadows in the foreground and the bright atmospheric sky!

Ooft, what a photo! I'm so glad you got your break in the rain to bag this shot, it's a beauty. Glencoe Lochan isn't an easy place to get a shot as good as this, but you've had some great conditions and the long exposure works amazingly well. I'd be chuffed if I bagged this, it's a stunner.

Landscapes that we visit often take our breath away. But managing to capture those views successfully with the camera takes great skill and patience, and usually with a few retouching skills thrown in as well nowadays. Landscapes from around the world are welcomed in this contest, and can be in colour or black and white, with or without people.

Cinque Terre is somewhere I'm yet to visit but every time I see photos it makes me want to go more and more, especially beautiful shots like this. The small coastal towns have an almost magical appearance and just beg to be photographed. Lovely colours in the sky and the long exposure looks spot on!

Reflection porn!! This is such a beautiful image, Blea Tarn is a great place to photograph sunrise, you're more or less guaranteed to get it to yourself due to the relatively remote location. When the light and reflections are this good it makes it so much sweeter!

What a stunning image, the Langdales are one of my favourite parts of the lakes and this is a lovely capture. That menacing sky coupled with the sunlight on the Langdale Pikes works beautifully with that colourful foreground. I really really like this photo :)

Simple and effective, a great example of when less can definitely be more. The contours of the hills work well to make your eyes almost float down the image to the tree. there's a real beauty in a winter landscape that just can't be achieved at any other time of year, and this shows that off perfectly. Great job :)
