This has been such a hard competition to judge as the entries were all so good. But this image really stood out from others, it's just an average, grey rainy day made to look very interesting and has a special atmosphere about it. The pinks, reds, green and blues really pop against the greys of the sky and wet road and pavement.

Every day life reflected against mirrored windows but it also makes me think of the everyday life that we can't see behind those windows and the people looking out of them. It's a very nice abstract image of the cars and the slightly distorted and warped shapes the glass has produced.

This is like a close up of tyre tread patterns but made up of lots of tyres, each with their own tread patterns. The composition with its close cropping of the image makes it very strong picture and it really draws my eye into all the shapes going on. I like the highlights on the tyres contrasting against the dark rubber.

I love the colours created in this image and the textures of the peeling bark are great, it feels wet to me, like they are all fluid and flowing together. The colours all work well to produce a very interesting and well composed abstract image.

Well done on this image, it is very striking and all done in camera. I like the shapes created from the folds of paper and the nice, pleasing colour palette with the gradients of colour from the back lighting all work well to complete this picture.

This is a very bold and graphic image with good strong composition. I like the softness of the lighting and how it is focused on the centre of the shapes leading my eye into the image. The colour palette of blues and pinks is very nice.

This is a very appealing image. It has been very well lit with the nice gradient of reds and through to blue with the white spot in between. The droplets look great and I really like the triangular one giving a different shape on the left hand side.

This is a very nice and energetic image, I feel like I'm travelling at high speed into an unknown place. I don't actually know how it was achieved but it definitely caught my attention. I like the soft, subtle colours coming out from the white centre.

This is a very interesting abstract image with the juxtaposition of the modern building against the rusty metal. The building is framed very well with the rusty metal all around producing an eye catching shape. The great composition draws my eye into the image to see the window washer on the building.

There are lots of things in this picture that I really like. The tones of the dark pebbles contrast so well against the white of the foamy water. The slow shutter speed emphasises the great shapes the water has made as it washes over the pebbles and goes out again.

I really like the way my eye was drawn into this image, the red is so strong and striking and it contrasts so well with the blue wall. It's really nicely exposed and the lighting make it all 'pop'! It's all very interesting and cool.

These patterns amaze me when I see them, I can never work out why they form that way, they are like palm trees. I like the softness of the light in this picture, it gives very nice tones from black and grey through to white.

What an amazingly beautiful creature this is. The lumps and bumps of the skin produce the most spectacular patterns and the colours are incredible. The eye in the top right corner give the picture a sense of scale and a meaning, it's very well composed.

How does an abstract surprise? Maybe when it’s something familiar, but looks unrecognisable. Or it looks very familiar, but is something completely different? Abstracting our subjects, through compositional chicanery, getting up close, playing with viewpoints - however you choose - allows for a refreshing, interesting, and sometimes surprising new take on the world.

I love the sense of speed created by the movement and the slow shutter speed of the camera. It's given a very smooth feel. I like the fact there is a train coming in the opposite direction giving the purple flash on the left hand side. It makes me want to see what is around the bend.

I like the composition of this image with the empty space to the right of the frame. This glass sculpture has a very strong and bold shape and with it's pink, blue and yellow hues that all contrasts well against the white background to produce a lovely abstract image.
