This photo stands out - there are many photos of people pulling/pushing things in this competition but in this photo's composition leads the eye from the first man alll the way through to the vehicle. Depth of field is well done, ensuring that the vehicle is slightly blurred and the focus remains on the team. Square crop makes this even better. And finally - whether planned or not - the colour changes in tee-shirts is spot on and pulls you into the image as well. Amazing!

Fantastic photo and a deserved winner! The lighting conditions look as if they may have been a bit tricky and yet you have managed to balance shutter speed / ISO / apture perfectly. Great reflections. Just two people but the composition reflects that they are working as team. Well done!

Meet the judge

I really, really liked this photo - your composition - with the lines of the field, the distinct colours and their brightness in comparison to the clothing of the workers makes it really stand out. You've managed to get the exposure well enought to maintain a level of detail in the sheeting, though you may want to look again in post. There's also quite a bit of noise and my hunch is that you cropped a fair bit? If you have RAW version of this image I think it would be very much worth experimenting on in post. Great photo though - just missed the top ten!

Great capture - I hope that he caught them all without mishap! Shutter speed just right to freeze the action but it's the dust coming off the top bricks that preserves the feeling of movement. Good idea to apply a square crop. Two small pieces off feedback - image is tilting slightly to the left and you might want to try levelling this. Also, I can see some chromactic aberration (green) where the mountains meet the sky. This can be quite quickly fixed in editing software. Otherwise - great photo!

Again - a photo that stands out due to the incongruity of the subject and it's colour! On brief. What you might want to look at ... maybe crop and take the column on the right of the frame out? Also - some editing software allows you to compensate for vertical distortion - this may help straigten out the column of the left a bit. Otherwise - great spot - great photo!

Simple subjects can make the best photos. Just two subjects but you've clearly nailed the brief. Sharp (looking at the detail in the hats) and with great colours across the spectrum (lilac / green / red hair) - if you have enhanced them in post well done for not over-doing it!

Not many faces to be seen in this photo, but it does stand out. Firstly, the composition with the trough pulls the eye into the photo, plus the blurring of motion emphasises the working together as pect of the brief. One very small piece of feedback - there is a slight tilt to the right and I might have tried to correct that. Otherwise - great photo!

As you say - must have been a tricky shot to take. There is noise in the photo, but you have handled this very well, especially as you have made a crop. What makes this photo 'pop' is flame on the glass; it pulls your eye away from the figures that are actually quite noisy, but not enought to detract from the brief of working together. Well done!
