The Beauty of Winter

Congratulations on fifth place. To me, winter offers dramatic backdrops and stunning lighting. You have captured the loneliness and the darkness we often associate with Winter. The dramatic sky is only further highlighted by presenting it in black and white. The mountains are quite imposing and the depth of the blackness of the road is accentuated by the fact it is completely deserted. This photo makes me smile. Such a simple and beautiful moment caught in time. The snow falling is very clear in the foreground and it is almost as if the subjects are secondary in your photo, the falling snow is the star! I would love to know more, what happens at the discovery centre? I can’t figure out if the fisherman is wearing a mask, or is it a face covering for the cold? There he is out fishing in the snow, did he catch anything? The greyness of the natural light makes it all quite unclear which adds to the mystery and the atmosphere of the photo. Gorgeous photo. Winter is not solely snow and this photo captures winter in all its dull glory, its many colours and with its subtle but gorgeous lighting.
