What a striking shot. For me, it was love at first sight. I love the creativity behind this image. I love how, whilst still keeping the moon as the obvious main focus of the shot, the photographer managed to portrait it in a much more original light. Since most entries featured a moon that was full, it was also nice to see the moon in a different (perhaps even more flattering) phase. The flowers in the foreground, being the same colour as the moon, complement it beautifully. A great idea and beautiful shot, well done!
The simple, painterly beauty of this shot captivated me immediately. What I love the most about this image is the array of colours in the sky and clouds that the photographer was able to capture. They convey incredible depth and dynamism to the shot and make the image truly look like a painting. It would have been nice for the moon to stand out even more in this landscape by being positioned in a larger gap in the branches, but this is nevertheless a beautiful moon shot with so much more than just the moon. Well done.
I love the suggestive and eerie landscape painted in this picture, made all the more striking by the choice of black and white. Intrigued as I am, I keep on looking at the shot wanting to find out more: are the grey shapes all clouds, or is it part of the horizon we can see? I would have loved an image description to go with this picture. This is for sure a very successful portrait of the moon - not an easy challenge indeed! Well done.

**This contest is open to photographers ranked below 1000 in this week’s Leaderboard.** Astrophotography is a thrilling genre of photography. The moon, with its size and proximity to the Earth offers a unique opportunity to shoot a planetary mass in some detail without needing the most specialist of equipment. On cloudless nights the moon is a presence that can bring a source of night light, and provide an evocative addition to nighttime scenes. For the avoidance of doubt, the moon must be visible in each submitted image, although it if is entirely incidental to the scene then it is unlikely to be awarded.
