This is a lovely shot and gives a real sense of the bleak and cold, complete with a good dose of winter misery (in a positive way), always enhanced in black and white. The reason it didn't make my top ten was that it was very hard to distinguish if it was actually an old service station or not. Had there been a few more clues like old pumps or signs then it would have been in there. A great shot nonethless and thank you for entering the contest.
I chose this shot as one of my top ten because it really stood out with the nice crisp shapes and the lovely lighting which I presume has come from the sunshine on quite a stormy day. T It's a very clean shot and all elements are very well defined so I take from that it's very well looked after location. I chose it before looking at the title so it would appear that because it's at Goodwood that's the reason it's very well kept. One very minor thing is the red post at the bottom of the frame which could possibly have been cloned out but it's only a very small point. A great shot and thank you for entering the contest.
Well done on making the top ten and thank you for entering an interesting shot. This is another one that really captured the essence of the service station and shows how they can be very sociable areas. Although there is a lot going on in the frame it's not overly busy and cluttered so the eyes can wander round with out being bombarded. It's not the sort of service station I can say I'm familiar with but it certainly looks a hive of activity and a little area of self enterprise judging by the stall in the foreground. A lovely vibrant shot. Well done.
First of all thank you for entering the contest and to everyone else that did. I chose this submission as my first place as it really captured the essence of what I was looking for. The first thing that caught my attention was the use of the puddle which to me added an extra dimension and gave a good sense of depth to the shot. I like the way that the reflections are broken up rather than a complete mirrored image. Due to it being a night shot and the background being comletely black the service station looks like it could be in quite a lonely location but is still a little oasis of life. Whether this is true of the location I'm not sure but this is the feel I get from the shot. I also really like the way that the people who are gathered on the forecourt are located in one spot rather than throughout the whole frame. This gives the shot a lovely composition and breaks it up very nicely. Overall a cracking shot that to me has taken quite a dull subject and really given it a life of it's own. Well done.

This is a contest to showcase your photos of the roadside service station. The contest brief is open to your own interpretation but try and capture elements that portray the true essence of these particular stop off points. We have probably all spent time at these places at some point on a journey and they can be places of dread, fear and loathing, but equally can be fantstic locations for doing a spot of people/vehicle watching. People can be in the shot or you may decide to choose a single element or object for the focus of your image. Black and white or colour shots are acceptable, but please ensure post editing is kept to an absolute minimum.

This shot caught my attention due mainly to the light trails in front of the service station. They act as a compliment to the closed service station and show signs of life in what looks like quite a desolate spot. There were a lot of shots with service stations that looked to be abandoned but this one, although old looks like that it might actually still open for business at times. The composition is very good with the building in the centre of the frame and I like that the sky is very dark blue rather than black and also that you can see the stars. Thank you for entering the contest.
