A great shot that manages to evoke a lot of emotion. Our protagonist is probably on a train shortly after sunrise, alone and seemingly with the weight of the world on her shoulders. Many of us have been exactly in that spot. The slightly dingy carriage lighting you’ve captured evokes both that uncomfortable sensation as well as the impersonality of the carriage. In the wrong hands this could have been a pedestrian shot, but you’ve used light, strong leading lines and an ability to spot an opportunity to produce a great picture.
A great picture, with superb use of colour. Not only that, the colours are bright and unusual for this subject matter. The slow shutter speed works really well too. The image somehow manages to conjure up a dreamy/nightmare scenario all at once! Well done for capturing such an unusual image with what can be quite a banal subject (in the wrong hands).
You demonstrate a great eye for detail with this image. The detail on the seat number and top of the seat is pin sharp and engages the senses really well. I can feel that seat as if I’m back on a childhood train journey. The depth of field is also spot on, with the blurry background further evoking that feeling of being back on a train as a youngster.
A great spot, resulting in a great shot...so many pictures of carriages in this competition taken from this angle were, to be frank, dull images of metal boxes - but you have avoided this by getting the composition spot on. By this, I mean both in terms of the position of the door, window and bottom of carriage, but also ensuring that there is just the right amount of colour in the image. It’s striking whilst also not being overwhelming.
I wish the carriages where I live were quite so bright, and as such so conducive to excellent work like this... You have used the structure of the station really well to give the picture structure, and the bright colours of the carriages are echoed in the platform. A great shot, even down to the open carriage doors which seem to invite us into the image.

Please enter your photos of train carriages. Images can show any of the different train carriages from across the world, whether modern or vintage. Underground train carriages are acceptable too. Your pictures might be of the inside or outside of the carriage, and might show entire carriages or details from these. Other things such as people or train engines can be present in the pictures, but please ensure that the carriages are the main focus.
