Trees in the City

This image grabbed my attention as soon as I saw it, and is just the type of image I was hoping to see in this contest. I love the contrast between the rather dreary-looking industrial building, and the beautifully rich hues of the autumnal tree. Good balance between the subjects, and well composed to highlight the tree as the subject but to clearly show it's context. Congratulations on your winning image.

I love the simplicity of this shot, which is well-seen, demonstrating a great photographic eye. Composition is maybe a little unconventional, but that suits the subject and makes the image a real stand-out. Framing is spot-on, with just the right amount of each tree included to ensure they are obviously viewed as trees, and the inclusion of the crenulated wall-top adds interest. A striking image, shot into the low sunlight which is casting dramatic shadows. The image works well in black and white, as it forces focus more on the shapes and patterns of the silhouettes and shadows rather than just documenting the scene. Well composed, with the main tree centrally positioned, meaning its shadow forms a leading line, drawing the viewer into the frame. Great image, well done on your top ten placing.

A lovely image showing a strikingly beautiful tree, standing above the town spreading out below. The lighting is lovely, looking to be captured in the evening blue hour before night descends. The blue tones also help convey a sense of the chill of winter. There is still plenty of light left in the sky to allow the leafless tree to be displayed in silhouette. Great work, well done on your top ten placing.

A great capture of a great scene, showing a mass of boxy dwellings interrupted by a couple of large trees, seeming rather incongruous within the dense urban setting. Also working well is the colour contrast between the dusty red of the brick buildings and the lush green of the trees. Congratulations on your third place finish.
