I love this shot, nothing flamboyant or excessively processed, simply being exactly what it is; a small copse of trees, standing in the middle of an arable field on a misty winter day. The central composition works well and leaves the viewer in no doubt as to the subject, and I also like the the inclusion of the remnants of the harvested crops in the foreground which add some interest. Conversion to black and white works well with the subject and further conveys a mood of dull and damp. Congratulations on your winning image.
I love this dark and moody image, with the leafless tree clinging on to life on the edge of the rocks, maybe being more exposed to the elements, but maybe also giving it better opportunity to reach out to the light. Environments such as this tend not to support many trees, and this one certainly adds to the composition of the landscape to make for a bleak but very attractive shot. Congratulations on your third place finish.
A great capture of this precariously leaning tree, composed in such a way that the trunk follows a continuation of the line of what looks to be remains of a dry stone wall. A simple scene, but one with a lovely mood of calm, with just the white of the sky and the soft blue of the winter sky providing the perfect backdrop for this rather attractive tree. Great image, well done on your top ten placing.
A very clever shot that needs more than a quick look to understand and appreciate the image. By the positioning the figures with their arms aloft, I imagine the shot must have been pre-planned and pre-visualised, a skill which I imagine is not easy to master, but has produced a great result. Well done on your top ten placing.
A fabulous capture of an equally special tree that just asks to be photographed. We can so often see such strange and unusually shaped trees that we take them for granted, but in looking more closely for judging this contest, I can only but wonder as to the processes of nature involved to create such a shape. Composition is great, allowing the bend of the upper part of the tree to fill the sky, whilst still classically composing the shot and placing the tree trunk according to the 'rule of thirds'. The image also perfectly conveys a sense of a dull and damp winter's day. Congratulations on your second place finish.

In this contest I would like to see your photos of trees with no leaves, which can be in rural or urban settings. Images can show just one tree or many, anything from a close-up of a branch to a wider landscape view. The trees must be the focal point of the image and it must be obvious the tree is without leaves, although one or two remaining leaves are allowed. Try to emphasise the shapes and patterns created by the bare branches. Images can be in colour or black and white. I look forward to your entries.
