The photographer has waited for the person and the dog to enter the lit area which is just the right place for them to be. Would it have been slightly better if they had been walking towards the photographer? Possibly but you can't have everything! The lines of the building all lead us to these two figures. The white parts of the building in the top right corner are slightly distracting and may have benefited from toning down.. Well seen and composed.
This is an excellent image with strong compositional elements. There are the leading lines of the groynes which take the eye through the image to the Jersey shoreline. The narrow gap between the end of the groynes and the buildings is a very important element. The long shutter speed has smoothed out the water surface whilst retaining some subtle banding in the water. Unfortunately on the right hand side of the image, just to the left of the first 4 groynes, there is a processing error which has left a very obvious vertical line. This has kept the image just outside the top 10. Re-edit this if you can and you will have a first class image!
Views of The London Millennium Footbridge crossing the Thames towards St Paul's Cathederal on the opposite bank must be one of the most photographed scenes in the capital in the last 20 years. Indeed there are several in this contest. This however is a "stand out" example! The composition is great with the strong lead in from the right. I wonder if taking a couple of steps to the left to slightly increase the gap between bridge & cathederal would have been better? The time of taking, at night with the buildings lit but with still some detail in the sky is excellent.
A dramatic view of these remarkable crane like buildings overlooking the river. The clouds seem to hang over and echo the shape of the structures. The line of the three buildings on a diagonal introduces a sense of tension and dynamism which seems to emphasise the imlied inbalance of the buildings themselves. The image has a full range of tones and detail has been retained in all areas. Excellent work!

I would like to see your black and white photos of urban landscapes. Urban landscapes include, amongst other things, buildings, streets, urban parks and transport. People can be part of your image but please do not enter portrait photos. You may choose to show an urban landscape with modern contemporary architecture or the glory of older buildings. Or your focus could be on urban decay and the neglect of some of our built heritage, streets bustling with people and markets or deserted with empty shops. Please only enter photos in black and white. Towns and cities around the world are full of fantastic photo opportunities so I am looking forward to seeing your interpretations.
