Thank you for entering the “ Violet is not purple” contest. I didn’t realise when I set it, that the judging would be quite so tricky.
There were only a few bird images entered, but strangely enough, they were all contenders. I like the colours on the feathers, showing the various shades of violet - brief met. I possibly would have cropped the bottom edge so the subject matter, i.e. the starling, would have been more prominent.

There are a number of variations of violet and this is leaning towards the lightest shade, almost pink in fact. Many images were bordering on purple so that's one of the reasons I chose this. Very delicate, very pastel, beautiful. AND with a Nikon D90.

Mainly the images were of flowers, so this caught my eye straight away. Puffins do feature a lot on the site, but usually the images are quite severe. I like this one due to its bokeh background, and perhaps the colours have been enhanced, but the violet hues are definitely visible, so it therefore makes the top 10!

This image is full of colour, a full frame of colour in fact! Without the stonework, it would have been just another flowers shot, but this makes it much more visually pleasing. It has impact and therefore, audience appeal. A worthy winner!

Please submit your images of all things coloured violet. Although they seem interchangeable, violet is not purple. Both colours are created by combining red and blue, but violet is deeper with more blue tones, compared to purple which has more red in its composition. Pantone's colour of 2018 is in fact "Ultra Violet" which is slightly misleading, as ultra violet is not a colour that most humans can see because it is outside the visible spectrum. Apparently, Claude Monet was able to see it as a colour after an operation, which removed the entire lens of his left eye, at 82 years of age. This is a bit of a drastic measure however, so just do your best. Think violet, not purple!

Thank you for entering the “ Violet is not purple” contest. I didn’t realise when I set it, that the judging would be quite so tricky.
It’s a shame there’s no EXIF data as it’s interesting to see how photographers capture their shots. Flowers were prominent in this contest, but having the girl in the frame makes it a totally different image. Now it tells a story! What’s in the bag? Why is she there? Who is she with?
Visually appealing and a good composition.
