There were many strong entries in the challenge, but I kept returning to this wonderful panoramic where the edge of the town surrounds the view of almost the entire village. This is an image that would ideally be printed large, where you could spend ages exploring all the details of the houses and harbour. Congratulations on the win!

This is so beautifully painterly that I had to look closer to be sure it hadn't had some kind of filter applied! Wonderful composition with the cool blues of the sky and the water surrounding the warm ochres of the buildings and sand. The diagonals of the masts protruding into the sky, and their reflections in the water, pull the composition together. If the boats weren't there, it might still be a pretty picture, but it wouldn't have the life. Congrats on making my top 10!

There were so many entries taken on Lofoten - many from exactly the same viewpoint. They were all great photos - clearly it's the place to stand to take the classic shot when you're there! However this one, by the very fact that it wasn't one of those shots, leapt out at me and so gains a place in my top 10
Such a sense of a wide open space, completely subject to the elements - not protection against whatever weather might appear! But the buildings on the horizon, and the power cables alongside the road show us peopke live here despite this. The warm sunrise against the cool snow is a beautiful colour combination.
This was so close for a top 10. If there had been a top 15 option, it would have been in it! Such a strong contrast betweeb the cultivated green fields and the dusty brown sand of the ruins and desert beyond! The perfectly positioned balloon lets us know the photographer was in something similar to take this image.
I would happily have placed this image in my top 10 were it not for the border. While a border makes sense for a printed image, for one that is only being seen on a screen it is a major disadvantage. We already have far fewer pixels available to us to view an image, so to deliberately remove even more by creating a border is senseless for an image that will only be viewed on a computer screen, tablet or phone. A photo like this needs to be seen as large as possible, not smaller.
An astounding photo that just grabs the viewer and refuses to let go! I have no idea how you managed a 2 second exposure nd kept the image so sharp, given that you must hae been in a plane or helicoptor to take the image. But it has allowed for a stronger sense of light trails on the roads. What I paricularly love with the narrative is that the edge of town is not just the river and fields, but in the case the sky too. It really was a close call, and on a different day (or part of the coffee cycle) this could have taken 1st place. But congrats on 2nd this time.

This contest is for your photos showing the edge of a city, town or village where urban ends. The edge of town could be fields, desert, the sea, mountains, etc. but photos should show both sides of the boundary between urban and what lies beyond. Images can be in colour or black and white.
