Black and White

I love this action shot! The (flash?)light has caught the expression on the face of the boxer while also sculpting the torso of his opponent.

The crispness of these moving subjects is quite amazing. It captures every detail - the straining horses, their coats gleaming with sweat, and the expressions and concentration of the drivers, even the dust being thrown up by the hooves and the softness of the grass verge. A wonderful capture!

What a majestic subject! The wonderful shape of the stag stands out against the soft texture of the ferns and grasses and the ghostly shapes of the herd behind him. I love the detail of his face as he stares directly at you. The scene is perfectly rendered in black and white.

I love the way the light picks out the seller and isolates him from the hustle of the crowd around him. He seems completely absorbed in his thoughts and oblivious to his surroundings.The shallow depth of field also emphasises the textures of his wares, although I am not sure what it is exactly that he is selling! A wonderful capture of a moment in time!

Zebras are ideal subjects for black and white photography but this is a truly original pose! You have captured every detail of the animal which contrast with the clouds of dust and the shafts of light from the left hand side.

What an expression! The effort and determination is writ large on this man's face which is captured in every detail. The background gives a glimpse of what he has just come through with others struggling behind.

The intensity of this child's gaze hints at experience beyond his years and makes me wonder what his life is like. The lighting is perfect, down to the glints in the eyes, which make them come to life.

A lovely image and composition. I like the way the light falls onto the machinery, emphasising its shapes and textures, which contrast with the soft outline of the human figure. The secondary light in the upper left corner prevents the background being lost in the shadows so that the repetition of the machinery's shapes is visible.

Black and white is the perfect medium to capture the shape of the tree as well as the textures of the smaller branches and the pebbles in the foreground which contrast with the smoothness of the water and the sky. A great use of black and white..
