Frame-filling shots are a favourite of mine, and this is a great example of how different the perspective can be on the landscape when the subject fills the frame. There is enough included to give a hint as to what the wider location would look like, but we are in nice and close to see the lovely details of the falling water, the mossy vegetation and the shape and form of the rock face. Great image, well done on your top ten placing.
The lighting in this image is stunning and makes it stand out from several other entries captured at this location. By blending different exposures you have been able to effectively capture a full range of tones from the darkest through to the brightest, resulting in plenty of detail and a gorgeous "glow" to the landscape. The chalky cliff-face is especially well lit, showing great textural detail in the rocks. A well balanced composition too. Congratulations on your winning image,
Gosh, this image is certainly full of drama. I have been fortunate enough to visit the Faroe Islands but the conditions then were quite opposite to this; bright and calm. The composition of the image really captures the intensity of the boiling ses as it crashes round and against the cliffs, and thankfully you were not tempted to use a slow shutterspeed to turn it all into a milky pool and so loose the mood. The conversion to black and white somehow intensifies the drama of the shot and the power and raw beauty of nature. Well done on your top ten placing.
This image was in and out of my top ten placings quite a few times, but in the end I decided it deserved to be placed. I think the point of question was the relative prominence of the people in the landscape, but as we see them only from behind and they are moving away from the camera, they kind-of invite us into the picture to the scenery and cliffs beyond. The image has captured a stunning stretch of coast, and who could not be tempted to enjoy a walk along the coastal path? Great lighting creates a lovely mood. Well done on your top ten placing.

By capturing some distant people walking along the undercliff pathway we get a real sense of the scale of these beautiful cliffs. Lots of detail in the weathered rockface to explore, and I especially like that you have included the view to the far distance where we see a different cliff formation further down the coast, giving a good impression of the lie of the land in this part of the world. The colouring is great too, rich but not oversaturated. Great work, well done on your top ten placing.
The low viewpoint gives this shot real impact. The rockface in the background is the clear subject of the image, but the gentle undulations in the sand give great foreground interest too. The golden hour light gives a beautiful colour and tone to the shot. I especially like that the sky looks natural, as for some reason so many entrants feel the need to swap out the real sky and slot in another that in no way matches the rest of the scene. Congratulations on your third place finish.
This awesome scenery could not fail to capture my attention, and this viewpoint suits the theme of the contest perfectly. Sometimes we can become so used to seeing images of locations such as this, but it is worth pausing a while to appreciate the stunning splendour of nature. With such a scene it is difficult to convey scale, and the hikers futher down the trail do hint at that, and the track itself draws us down into the canyon. It is still difficult to appreciate the width of the river etc. and I am struggling to pick out the boats you mention, but you have done a great job in trying to wrap up the scenery into a single photograph. Everything looks natural, with no over-processing or gimicky effects. Great work, well done on your top ten placing.
Your several trips to scout the location certainly paid off, as here we have a beautiful photo, shot in lovely conditions with a stunning composition. For me it is that composition which makes the shot, with the landmass curving through the frame on an inverted 'c', and leaving just enough sea beyond the end of the headland to keep everything nicely balanced. Colouring is lovely, creating a mood of calm. Great work, well done on your top ten placing.

In this contest I would like to see your photos of cliffs. A cliff is a steep vertical, or near vertical, exposed rock-face. You could show cliffs that are most typically found at the coast, but images could also feature inland cliffs, maybe rivers canyons or cliffs in high mountainous areas. It must be obvious that any rocks in the photo are cliffs, and the cliffs should be the focal point of your photo. Images can be in colour or black and white. I look forward to seeing your entries.
The ability of the seaside to completely change from one day to the next can be extraordinary to witness, and here we see the stormy sea crashing into the cliffs, very different to a summers day on the beach. The water has taken on the colour of the rocks as it churns up the sand, possibly bringing down more of the cliff face in the process. The coast can be picture-perfect on a calm summer's day, but this is a great alternative view, full of drama and motion. Well done on your top ten placing.
