Great contest!

An image well suited to HDR processing, which has been very effectively carried out. The bright natural light through the window has been well balanced with the darker interior, with good details visible across the shot, whilst shadow and depth has been retained and the image has not become flat, grungy or gaudy as can sometimes be the case with HDR. Lovely colours across the image, which all blend nicely to give a harmonious feel. Great work, well done on your top ten placing.

A well executed image of a classic view of these much photographed cube houses. Your composition and framing has been very well considered to keep good balance and symmetry across the shot. Your exposure is good, not always easy with the camera pointing skywards, and there is still good details in the more shadowy parts of the shot. The sky looks natural without being artificially blurred or enhanced as some choose to do with similar views, which retains focus on the buildings. Great architectural image, well done on your top ten placing..

This is a superb black and white candid potrait image. Your framing is spot-on for me, with the gentleman close enough to see his features, but with plenty of his surroundings visible to show context and a sense of place. Your capture of the light is lovely, creating great atmosphere, as is your black and white conversion, showing a full range of tones from black through to white, without becoming over contrasty. Lovely portrait image, congratulations on your second place finish.

The setting for this image is not especially exotic or beautiful, but in this shot you have made great use of the long shadows to lead the eye into the frame towards the group of people standing on the opposite corner, creating a rather appealing shot. The real success of this image is that you have managed to retain separation between the two figures and the street furniture which are in shadow form, which had avoided them being a less attractive unrecognisable mass of black. Great image of a rather mundane scene, elevated by the creative use of the shadows. Well done on your top ten placing.

I love this simple, minimalist shot of a corner, with the bold contrast between the yellow and blue an obvious attraction. With such simple lines and shapes, it is vital that everything is well composed and that horizontals and verticals are all true to maximize the graphic impact of the shot, and you have successfully achieved that here. The inclusion of the imperfection in the paintwork adds extra interest to the scene. Congratulations on your winning image.

I like this image the more I look, and it gradually rose through the placings during my judging. The bicycle is an obvious focal point, positioned centrally in the scene, and after bing drawn to the bike and corner of the building, there is plenty of interest within the rest of the scene for the eye to wander and explore, including some vital human interest. I especially love the rich earthy colours you have captured, which, coupled with the gentle lighting, create a lovely atmosphere to the shot. Well done on your top ten placing.

Many people go to great lengths to avoid having people in their photographs, but with a shot such as this I believe the inclusion of the figure is vital to the success of the shot. I can imagine how you felt with camera in hand just wondering who and when someone would appear around the corner, knowing you only had a split second to react before they left the frame. The boy has been caught in a perfect stance to give energy and a dynamic to the image. Great composition to capture the main features in the artwork and an adequate amount of space beyond the corner - I was on this exact corner myself a few weeks back and it is not easy to avoid getting the street-furniture in shot either. Your capture of the colours across the scene is great, as you have shown the bright colours of the street art and the child's clothing, which are bold but not over-saturated. Congratulations on your third place finish.

There were a number of entries of single buildings in this contest, however many did not seem especially relevant to the theme, other than that pretty much all buildings will have several corners. Here however we see a building designed to be all about corners, with the unusual angles and shapes of the design, captured from your ideal viewpoint. You have captured a great night-time architectural image, caught when there is still sufficient light in the sky to avoid it looking black, and I think that really adds to the success of the shot as the dark blue contrasts nicely with the colour coming from the artificial lighting. Everything is crisp and sharp, with good composition and framing. Well done on your top ten placing.

A late addition to my top ten, this is a quality interior capture of a modern shopping centre. The removal of colour to create a black and white image has been successful, as without the distraction of colour the image also takes on a more graphic feel too. Composition is spot on, with creative use of the extreme wide angle to accentuate the corner of the rail giving a dynamic to the shot, and the figures have been captured appropriately within the different spaces below. Great black and white work, with lovely tones and contrasts. Well done on your top ten placing.

In this contest I would like to see your photos which show a corner - the point where two or more surfaces, sides or edges join to form an angle. You may wish to stay indoors and perhaps show the corner of a room, maybe with an object of interest positioned in the corner. Alternatively you may decide to head outside and show a street corner, or the corner of any architectural structure. The choices are wide and varied, but please make sure a corner is obvious and the main focal point of your image. I look forward to seeing your entries.
