Curtains, Blinds and Shutters

The precise composition and framing allows all these balconies with their individual blinds or curtains to be viewed in comparison with each other to see the similarities and differences between neighbouring apartments. I love the tones of the image, with the colours bold but not over-saturated, allowing little pops of colour to stand out. Great image, well done on your top ten placing.

Wow, what a shot of a rather impressive building. I wonder if this is virtually the whole, or whether these orderly windows with their neat green shutters continues in each direction on a much larger building. The orange of the worn plasterwork contrasts well with the green shutters. Everything has been well aligned in the composition and framing, adding more impact to the shot and intensifying the repetition. Great work, well done on your top ten placing.

This image rose up through the awards during my judging, and is an image I like more the longer I look. Whilst the general interior of this building is obviously rather dilapidated and abandoned, with large holes in the ceiling and peeling walls, the wafting curtains really make the shot, as they indicate wind blowing in from the outside through broken windows. The line of sight draws the eye down the passage to the far room, also with its blowing curtain visible against the brighter backdrop. Congratulations on your third place finish.

A great shot, well deserving of my top spot. Composition and framing for me is spot-on, as we see enough windows to see variety amongst the shutters and blinds, but not too many, which would have required a more distant viewpoint meaning some detail would be lost. I love this type of shot, where everything is the same, but at the same time very different. The inclusion of the tree on the right adds to the shot, and the weeds growing from the building further suggest it may have seen better days. Congratulations on your winning image.
