When I wrote the brief for this contest and thought of all the possible entries, a picture of corn never entered my mind. But as soon as I saw this photograph of fresh roasted corn I was flooded with memories of childhood scents. I can smell the fire, wood, and coals as well as the sweet corn and charred husks. I can imagine the aromas of the side dishes being prepared to accompany the roasting ears as well as the smell of summer in the air. This is a beautifully composed shot and great capture. Nice color and lighting. Simply amazing and a wonderful surprise. Congratulations on earning first place.

While not on everyone's list of favorite scents, this photograph holds a wealth of aromas. The warm smell of the cattle and the scent of hay mixed with manure. The bit of grass at the bottom of the picture yields one more scent as does the rusty metal strap on the door. The grayness of the picture and soft lighting hint at a cloudy day that holds in the aromas and magnifies them. For me, looking at this photograph feels like going home. Thank you for sharing it.

Congratulations on this award winning photograph. You hit a real homer with :Forest Rain," which hints at not just one, but several aromas. The first is the fresh pine needle scent which is a favorite that many people associate with winter holidays. The water clinging to the needles evokes memories of the pungent smell of ozone in the atmosphere before and after a rain storm and of the scent of petrichor which is released as the rain hits the ground. The brown needles clinging to the branches remind us of the unseen debris on the forest floor and the smell of decaying wood and leaves. While the berries provide a bit sweetness. Thank you for submitting this wonderful photograph that tingles all of the senses, including that of scent.

I expected to see a lot of photos of candles, incense, diffusers, and other items people use to make their homes smell pleasant. Among those photographs, this shot was by far the best. With its bold bright colors and interesting shapes and textures, it is an amazing capture. Great composition. Thank you for including the background information with your submission. Congratulations on making the top ten list. I can imagine this fascinating image blown up and hanging in a shop that sells similar items.

This contest is for photographs of objects that have a pleasing aroma. From home baked bread to freshly mown grass, the sense of smell can be closely linked with memory. The scent of coconut, for example, can conjure up memories of a childhood summer spent around a swimming pool, while pipe tobacco may remind us of a favorite uncle. I will be looking for creative photos of any object that emits a nice scent. Please do not enter photos of flowers.
