Outdoor Steps (no escalators)

Black and White is the perfect finish for this image, it helps contract the dark shadows with the light sky and allows the viewer to see the details of the hand rails etc. This image shows that if you go off the beaten track a bit more you can find great architecture and different angles. Perfect time of the day illuminating the long, stepped walk down to the lighthouse. the steps draw your eye from the bottom of the image to the lighthouse. The fact the the lighthouse light is still on and the sun is rising suggests the photographer has planned and waited for the right time to take the photo. Great image.

What's not to like about this image. Strong central steps bordered by the straw fence and the tall bamboo and the contrasting in colour between the pale straw and the vivid green. Also having been to Kyoto its amazing that you got this shot with no-one in it. Apart from Japan being the one place in the world I cant visit enough.

Another simple image where the right light and the addition of a stranger walking up and away from the photographer. The contrast between the dark, shadowed steps and the bright edges and slipway is sharp and cutting. Black and White is the perfect finish for this image, thank you.

This simple shot of outdoor steps would be an OK shot until you get the light at the right angle and brightness which transforms an OK image to a great image. The viewer gets drawn up the steps wondering where they will take them.
