I love this colourful scene of a street artist, possibly in Cologne. Unfortunately, there’s no information to go with the image. The artist has created an amazing circle of flags from around the world, with beautifully contrasting colours set against a background lit by bright midday sun. It’s a great observational shot, with the Turkish flag placed at the centre of the scene, drawing the eye and anchoring the composition.

A great bit of street photography capturing all the drama of Speakers’ Corner in Hyde Park, London. Anyone is free to debate any lawful subject, making it a real hotbed of discussion. This is a strong moment as the speaker raises his arm to point across the crowd, whose views are clearly being challenged. Shot in black and white, it has a timeless quality. Great observation, well captured.

A really strong image, well captured. I love the bold blue costumes of this choir from South Africa set against a bright summer sky. The colours contrast beautifully with the plain concrete of the unfinished village hall, giving the scene real impact and drawing the eye straight to the group. I really love the colours and intensity of this image as the super-bright red retardant is dropped from a plane flying low over the fire. The scene is full of drama as clouds of smoke billow across the image, dwarfing the aircraft as it emerges through the dense haze. The Desolata is a centuries-old religious procession in which hundreds of women, completely veiled and dressed in black, walk barefoot through the streets mourning the death of Christ. It takes place in Canosa di Puglia. It’s an incredibly powerful scene, made even more dramatic by being shot in black and white. Seen from above, the procession stretches out row upon row, giving a real sense of scale. It’s a striking image. Excellent work.

This is a strong image and a great example of using a low-angle perspective to add drama and impact. Shooting from down low looking up really enhances the sense of scale and celebration in the scene. Although the exact location isn’t confirmed, it does look like a street festival setting, in Mexico. The swirling green dress against the blue sky works beautifully, creating a striking colour contrast that immediately draws the eye. It’s a stunning image with excellent use of viewpoint, colour, and atmosphere.

The Bhandara Festival, famously celebrated in Maharashtra, is an explosion of devotion where thousands of pilgrims drench the temple town in golden-yellow turmeric powder. What an image. Shot from above, it captures the sheer scale of the celebrations, with thousands of pilgrims engulfed in a sea of yellow that fills the frame. The atmosphere, colour and energy of the festival are conveyed brilliantly. An extraordinary scene, beautifully captured.
