Thank you for submitting this image which stood out for me immediately as a wonderful example of repetition in nature. The composition - filling the frame with small acts of movement from small subjects - gives a strong sense of the natural mass. The colour palette adds to the sense of repetition too. I feel repetition on a small detailed scale, in a group sense, and in a wider thematic sense too. The variation of movement is particularly effective, with a pleasing balance of blur and detail. I feel like I can hear the image. Many congratulations on third place.
Thank you for submitting this image. It stands out for me as an interesting way to capture architectural repetition. The white squares in the facing building reflecting the white squares in the reflected building whilst distorting them, with the blue adding to a watery feel of the resulting shapes. I would personally have preferred not to see a sliver of white at the bottom right hand edge, otherwise I find the composition incredibly strong. Congratulations on your top ten placement.
Thank you for submitting this image which I was drawn to immediately. The architecture / sculpture is visually interesting in itself, but the figure in the centre makes the image come to life. It adds not only a sense of scale but a sense of humanity: the foreground edges seem face-like; the decreasing organic shapes around the small figure are thought provoking. I particularly love the slight sense of movement in the figure, the lining up of her clothes with the floor and her facing in profile to match the environment; she seems to be a part of it. The toning is strong but not distracting; the lines and texture are emphasised as is the reflective repetition. The image draws me in visually and thematically. Many congratulations on second place.
Thank you for submitting this image which stood out to me immediately. I appreciate the attention to and celebration of form and colour throughout. The repetition in both is visually striking. I like the visible reducing of the steps and the red colour as they go up, then being met with a block of the same colour, while the grey seems to fall down the image and wash over the wall. Overall I get a strong sense of repetition leading artfully towards balance. Many congratulations on first place.

Thank you for submitting this image. I appreciate the strong repetition in the composition, with the highlights and shadows working well to emphasise this. I particularly like the frame filling. Learning that the subject is an annual festival adds to the sense of repetition for me - the art complementing the subject. Congratulations on your top ten placement.

Repetition is a photographer’s friend, whether it’s found out and about in nature, in the built environment, or from arrangements of objects or people. It allows for compositional play, it can be humorous, or highlight differences between otherwise similar things. When setting up your repetitive composition, think about depth of field. Do you want everything to be sharp throughout, or will you isolate just one of your repeated elements with a narrow plane of focus?

Thank you for submitting this image which I felt to be a wonderful celebration of form. I appreciate the way you saw the scene and the technique used to capture it in a way that emphasises what it is interesting about the architecture; the mirroring reflections subtly bring in even more light, shade and shape. Compositionally, the strong vertical line is juxtaposed with strong short lines in all directions, all presented in toning that complements the natural light and shade in the scene. Congratulations on your placing.
Thank you for submitting this image. I appreciate the pleasing visual of the repetitions and levels in the architecture, with the additional layer of repeated yellow in the towels and in the blues, and then the human layer of the contrasting single / pair of people. When the forms with the image are so strong, I personally feel the visual symmetry becomes all the more important and for me I would like to see less wall space on the right hand side of the balcony.
Thank you for submitting this image which made me smile. The composition is clearly considered and is rich in storytelling elements based on repetition. I appreciate both the triangle and the line of three figures with arms crossed, the repetition of the hand on the hip and the repeated visual details which connect the seemingly unrelated figures together.
Thank you for submitting this image. I love the colour palette and strong directional lines which give the image a thorough sense of visual repetition. This combines with a strong sense of thematic repetition as the completed pattern takes up a much smaller space than the threads yet to be woven, although we can see the partial pattern. I particularly love the hand placement, visually linking the two halves and representing the work done and to do. Congratulations on your top ten placement.
