An image that I kept coming back to time and again. As you would expect in such a competition, there were so many footprint-in-the-sand pictures to choose from, and in that respect this was the stand-out image for me. Composition is spot-on, I love the colours which suggest evening/early morning and most of all, the footprint in the forefront of the shot with the sandy lines crossing the frame. Very nice. Well done and many thanks for entering.

There were so many shots of sand dunes entered into this competition to consider. This image, however, was one that stood out for me. I love the composition that is divided up into rough thirds by those slightly curved vertical lines. I assume it has been post-processed and so I will say I love the contrast and - what I consider to be - perfect colour tones applied to the sand itself. Many thanks for entering.

A picture that made me look more than once. What a fantastic image! The composition is bang on, detail is perfect and I love the colours, particularly the cool tones of the surf contrasting with the warm tones of the sand....all set off by the lone surfer and his (or her) shadow. Lovely and many thanks for entering.

An intriguing image I must say which is so simple in its construction. I love the contrast between the light and dark tones and the sharpness definitely conveys that all-important texture of the sand. Personally, I love it and again it is perhaps one of those shots that would pass most of us by. Lovely, and many thanks for entering.

Another stand-out image for me of the 'footprint in the sand' genre. The simpler the better. I like the warm tones of the sand and that all-important contrast sets off the lines in the sand very well, along with the perfectly placed footprints. The detail is also very good, giving the viewer a good feel for the texture of the sand. I've taken a good few beach/sand pictures myself and so can appreciate it can sometimes be difficult to finish up with an image you are happy with. I think you've pulled it off here perfectly.

This is a contest for photos where the main focus is sand. Sand is encountered in a variety of different scenarios from a building site, or a child's sandpit, through to the obvious such as a beach.....and anything in between. Make sure the main focus of your image is sand. I very much look forward to seeing what you come up with.

I can be a bit of a fan of the simple family snaps that will jog long-forgotten memories of days gone by. OK, for some, the horizon might not be quite straight and some highlights might appear a little burned out but this matters not to me. As I've said before, this is what photography is all about...good memories...and I like this image a great deal because of that reason. Many thanks for entering.

I deliberated over this image for a short time. I think it is wonderfully composed and I love the moody element of the lower half of the frame with the people and horse perfectly positioned. The sand contrails sweeping through the scene is the icing on the cake. What I do find rather distracting - in my opinion - is the burned out sun, which I think dominates the image perhaps a little too much. That said, it is still a lovely, well-observed image. Many thanks for entering.
