Scaffolding

The Eiffel Tower is a massive structure and the sheer size and scale of the scaffolding creates a compelling image. The lighting adds a wonderful quality to the image, especially in the way it catches reflections in the box on the side of the scaffolding. Well done!

The attractive blue sky provides the perfect backdrop for this simply designed graphic composition. The upright poles and ladder tell the story of scaffolding with minimal fuss. The whole scene is beautifully lit, with the tiny patches of yellow adding to the colour palette very effectively.

I was immediately struck by the way the diamond-shaped arrangement of birds added to the strong graphic design. The old building and well worn scaffolding poles blend together well, whilst the viewpoint and framing keep the composition tight - great shot!

Scaffolding of a very different design and for a very different purpose. Instinctively we think of construction sites when we consider scaffolding but you have located something different to hold our attention. Not only that, but the choice of a foggy day to suppress background detail and toning really a charming subtlety.

This competition delivered a diverse range of approaches, making selection of a Top 10 very difficult. So my top choices come from those I instinctively felt would have a top place when l first saw them. l enjoy the graphic approach and use of texture, within a pleasing colour palette. The low viewpoint creates a strong sense of height through the dangling rope and stack of platforms. Well done!

Those in the western world would expect a plethora of health and safety regulations when asked about scaffolding, ranging from the way the poles are assembled to the protective clothing the workers must wear. here we see things being done very differently. This picture is beautifully executed, showing the detail of the scaffolding with a striking tableau of workers. Well done.

The high contrast approach works well in showing a mass of inter connecting scaffolding poles. The workers provide a sense of scale and their separation from each other helps with the impact of the design, along with the striking starburst effect of course!

My winner is all about scale! The viewpoint and framing makes very effective use of the wrap around design of the building and scaffolding, but the real impact comes from the inclusion of a single worker, whose size gives a perfect reference point. The dark background makes him stand out and his upward stare leads the eye up through the composition further emphasizing the scale of the scaffolding. Well done!

A perfect example of less is more; rather than show the whole structure close attention to a small section has delivered a really effective result. The HDR style processing has revealed plenty of textural detail and the carefully considered viewpoint provides us with a wonderful starburst.
