Streets and Alleyways at Night (in colour)

4th The lighting in this picture together with the amazing colours is captured very well. It's a nice fresh sharp clean looking image. Would have been nice to have been able to refer to the metadata.

5th This picture just catches my breathe. It is sharp with beautiful colours. The eye is led down the narrowness to the purple and red at the end. The bicycle is important to the composition. I like the reflection of the light in the puddle.

1st. This is an awesome street shot at night. The rain is captured very well and really makes the image. ( I will remember to use a 1/100 shutter speed in the rain next time I take this sort of shot). Fully meets the brief. 'People going about their business.' The lighting is excellent with well balanced highlights and shadows. I like the way the man in the shop and the waiting young lad are holding their hands against their face in contemplation. The man with the umbrella is key to the composition as is the man on the bicycle. The bounce of the rain off the car roof lets us know just how wet a night this is. Excellent.

A very powerful image. I had to hunt for the street/alleyway. Only just on brief. Excellent composition with some very fine post editing work that I have now learned from. Thanks. Very difficult to find 10 top ten images out of all the wonderful submissions. This almost made it.

6th This photo with the starry night sky perfectly captures the deepness of the night . The subtle way the alleyway lights light up the walls and plants has been captured perfectly. Nice details in the shadows. Great image.

3rd A brilliant shot of an alleyway that fully meets the brief. Nice and sharp. Great expression of the man in the singlet white vest listening to the man pointing. Shadows and highlights balanced perfectly. The lady walking in the background at pace very much adds to the image. Super picture.

A wonderful moody oil painterly effect. Nice and sharp.

Nice crisp and warm shot

8th Great shot taken from a low perspective. The central gutter leads the eye down into this alleyway/street. Nice and sharp and great tonal balance. Would be much less of a photo without the man looking at his phone. Great photo.

At first glance this seems like a rather bland shot but in fact that wet floor captures the mood and the darkness at the exit makes you doubt whether you really want to venture beyond the safety of this lit alleyway.

2nd Wonderful crisp shot of a modern London street at night. Great tonal range. Excellent balance of highlights and shadows. That lovely gold warmness offset by the pale green of the window on the left and the metallic blue highlights off the curb. Excellent photo.

Beautiful lighting.

The composition with all that tallness above the night street scene is excellent. Sadly it is a bit blurred and the perpendiculars could do with straightening in my view. None the less a powerful image. It is one of those places that you could go back again and again until you get the near perfect shot.

Great shot. The eye first is directed to the descending figure and then the righthand ascending stairs to the upper alleyway seen next followed by the horizontal ally in the middle. Nice capture of lighting.

Choosing images for the top 10 from all the wonderful submissions is very hard. This is an excellent photo that could easily have made the top 10. Lovely lighting. That lady at the doorway just puts the icing on the cake.

Beautiful shot but just out of focus. Lovely composition. In my view dampening the highlights and sharpening a little in post editing software will have helped.

Great shot of this minaret that I have never seen before. This photo with its alleyway has been taken away from the Main Street and therefore nicely devoid of distractions. Great lighting. Now on my bucket list to visit.

It's the people that makes this shot. The gaze of the front lady window shopping. The two men behind in conversation and the lady pointing her finger. The lighting is also great.

Great moody shot which tells a story and works very well in black and white.
