An excellent capture - superb composition, and time of day was all important I guess with the slight shroud of dawn mist adding a little moodiness. The image subtly captures the grand sense of scale that there is in so many big cities - those imposing suburban tower blocks and pylons - as well as the peace and sometimes beauty that can also be found in these ‘sleeping’ regions.
Very well composed - a picture with real rhythm , and the sloping street provides a subtle feel of movement or, more accurately in this case, passing through. The lone figure on the step speaks of the hopelessness, boredom and loneliness that is to be found in some suburbs. Finally, the pin-sharp focus on the bricks gives a strong sense of texture. Overall, a really evocative image.
A great texture-heavy image. The generally fairly cool colours also work well in giving the picture an understated feel. Great composition too. In many ways it’s a simple image, but one that is so effective. It reminds us of an integral aspect of the suburbs wherever they are - that humdrum routine of daily and weekly chores that none of us can ever fully escape.

Please enter your best outdoor photos taken in suburban places. Images should not be taken in city centres or the countryside, but instead in the ‘dormitory’ regions where many of us live. The subject of the picture is your choice, but the picture must have been taken in the suburbs outdoors. Please try to make sure your images are as interesting as possible.
