The shades of blues, oranges and browns are perfect in this image. The light hitting the windows and shutters give an air of mystery, and it makes me want to see what is inside of them. The vertical lines and curve of the building are so pleasing to the eye. Focus is important, and f/9 was worked well in capturing the detail.

**This contest is open to photographers ranked between 1 and 250 in this week’s Leaderboard.** A contest theme that lends itself well to close-up photography, but not exclusively. Paying attention to the textures of the objects and surfaces around us, we can also observe the way that differing types and directions of light bring out those textures to the best effect. A hard light at the right angle will emphasise a texture, whilst a soft, diffuse light will fill in the texture and make it less obvious. Whilst everything in the world has a texture of some kind, please ensure that the focus of your image is on a specific texture, and belongs in the contest.

This is such a simple image, but is made utterly striking by the vibrant red of the Ladybug. I'm pleased to see that the Ladybug and the textured backbround are both sharply focused. The viewpoint works so well looking straight down on the pattern; you can almost feel the texture and imagine running your hand over it. The horizontal lines of the background work well against the different angle of the Ladybug.

This may indeed be from a Martian Landscape for all we know. I love the round bobbles, which could be strange trees. The blue and purple colours complements the 'ground' beneath them with the shades of brown and rough texture. Focus is tricky on such a small subject, there is enough to capture the strange textures, and completely blur the foreground and background.
