The Sea

I love the tranquility of this photograph. It really makes you feel calm just by looking at it. The subtle pale tones work so well and the placement of the boat to the left of center allows us the viewer to take in the sun within the scene. It could be a painting it is almost too perfect. This would look wonderful framed and I can imagine it as a poster and postcard in a collection. The techniques are subtle which allows all the elements of the image to work well together. Really well done. Stunning.

A truly unique entry and one that really elevates the idea of the perfect view or at least offers up different meanings. The sea evokes ideas around solitude and memory and this image takes that idea of memory to a very high level. The photograph itself without the skimming stone is stunning but the additional element of the splash and the stone in the foreground really lifts this image. Technically superb to capture the softness of the water and the perfect horizon line and the fast shutter speed to stop the stone mid air is excellent and cannot be bettered. We all remember looking for flat stones on the beach to skim as a child, this evokes that memory and has been packaged in a stunning image. Superbly crafted photograph.
