Great contest!

The composition of this image is slightly jarring, but for me that helps makes it such a successful image. The two elements are perfectly positioned to mirror each other, but one is tall and thin, the other short and square. I like that the white balance has not been corrected as the deep golden yellow of the soduim street light brings a lovely mood to the shot. Unusual in its composition, but different, which for me makes it a stand-out shot. Congratulations on your second place finish.

An interesting image, I like the abstract nature of the shot, with the central horizontal dividing line between the water and the land, with the randomly scattered boats. The limited colour palette keeps the scene harmonious and prevents one boat standing our over others, and allows the eye to gently wander around the image to explore. Great image, well done on your top ten placing.

Although the vehicle is tiny within the frame, the central composition and positioning of the car in the middle of the cross-roads means it is very much the focal point of the image. Your image data says that the shot was taken from a balloon, which makes the composition even more commendable as I presume you had no control over the positioning of the balloon. The inclusion of the evenly spaced tree and building either side of the car gives balance, as does the horizontal and the diagonals of the roads. Super image, well done on your top ten placing.

This image stood out to me for its naturalness and the straightforward documentary capture of a street in Kathmandu. The image is technically well photographed, and the lack of heavy processing or gimicky processing effects is refreshing and adds to the appeal. The cycle rickshaws are the clear focal point, but you have composed the shot with sufficient space around the subject to give context to the image and much more for the eye to explore without loosing the subject. I like the generally muted colour palette which suits the calm mood of the shot. Great image, well done on your top ten placing.

There were a number of entries in this contest showing animals, but many showed just an animal and not a vehicle as was requested in the brief. Here however we see a beautifully lit image of an ox cart, with the animals kicking up the dust in the late golden light. Colouring across the image is great, with an almost monochrome look which suits the mood of the shot. The relatively fast shutter speed has ensured the moving subject is sharp, and the wide aperture has kept the background soft, enabling the subject to stand out. Congratulations on your third place finish.

I love the drama which has been created in this image. I imagine the dark moodiness of the scene is a combination of the actual conditions and post processing, but the overall impact is great. The plane is relatively small within the frame, but this somehow accentuates the vastness of the outback and the remoteness of the setting. Great image, well done on your top ten placing.

This image is technically superb considering the difficult shooting conditions capturing the street scene through the windscreen from the back of a cab. It is good that we see not only the vehicles on the road, but also the interior of the taxi, providing a wealth of detail for the eye to explore. The brighter lighting on the road ahead draws the eye through the image and the windscreen, but there is sufficient light within the vehicle to pick up a few shapes and details and avoids the foreground being an area of distracting featureless darkness. An interesting viewpoint draws the viewer to the image. Great work, well done on your top ten placing.

What really attracts me to this image is the perspective of the shot, and the three distinct zones for the eye to explore as we are drawn into the shot. The foreground cobbles and tram tracks are full of textural detail, with the lines drawing the eye to the tram in the middle distance. The eye is then drawn further to the second tram and the buildings in the distance. Lovely warm colouring across the shot, and the light (or lack of) has been well handled to appropriately expose for the shady street without over-compensating. Great work, well done on your top ten placing.
