The wires in this image are a very small part of the overall scene, but your capture of the sunlight as it lights up the fence brings it out as a key feature of the shot. The light from the low sun coming through the trees is lovely, and the conversion to black and white has worked well, with a good range of tones and contrasts, and the eye being drawn to the brighter parts of the scene, including the wires. Viewpoint is good too, looking to be fairly low to the ground, which adds a pleasing dynamic to the shot. Great work, well done on your top ten placing.
This image stood out to me as soon as I saw it and it was always in my top three. A simple subject and composition; some would say mundane. However, by the capture of the light and the image processing used, the scene has been elevated to a beautiful and quite abstract picture. The way the light falls on the wire and tufts of wool highlights their textures, and the high contrast black and white conversion has been done really well, as full focus is on the subject and the shapes and patterns created by the wire and wool. Congratulations on your winning image.
A rather grim and gritty image, with the effects applied in image editing suiting the subject and accentuating the mood of the shot. I like that the gate is open, as it invites us to look beyond to see if we wish to enter, as a closed gate would have acted as a barrier. The muted colours work well, and although I am not a fan of selective desatration, it has worked here as the effect is relatively subtle. Everything looks sharply focused with plenty of details on the fence and the grassy tufts on the abandoned court. Well done on your top ten placing.
A lovely interplay between the harsh man-made elements of the wire and corrugated metal, contrasting with the lightness of the perched and fluttering birds. I love the rather abstract feel of the image and the varying shapes and patterns. I think the shot has been captured at just the right time, with many little birds settled, but enough just lifting off to add a sense of movement. The red colouring is rich and bold, but not oversaturated, allowing the curls of wire and the pale birds to stand out. Congratulations on your second place finish.
This is just the type of image I was hoping to see in this contest - a rather mundane street dominated by a chaotic jumble of wires and poles. The conversion to black and white, with the sky becoming one of the lightest tones, helps the wires and poles stand out and become a key feature of the shot. A good viewpoint has enabled the capture of the poles as they disappear down the length of the street, which also helps draw the eye into the scene. Great work, well done on your top ten placing.

An artistic presentation of some lines of barbed and razor wire, creatively processed to draw attention to the shapes and patterns formed by the wire. Composition is simple but effective and the square crop adds to the overall presentation of the image. Still very much on brief as the wire is the only subject, but through addition of a textured backdrop and selective adjustment of exposure, something much more artistic and eye-catching has been born. Congratulations on your third place finish.
What really attracted me to this unusual image is the abstract feel of the shot - the subject is obvious, but the way the image has been captured adds another dimension and creates an impactful shot. The light on the thin slumped wires helps them stand out from the dark blue sky, and the shapes of the pylons loom darkly behind; visible but not dominating the image. Great work, well done on your top ten placing.
A simple subject, but one which has been effectively captured to create a lovely image. The wide aperture has created a shallow depth of field, with just one small section of fence being in sharp focus, with the rest in front and behind falling softly out of focus. The soft greens look natural, and the two strands of dark orange rusted barbed wire contrast nicely and help them stand out. The fluffy detail of the lichen has been wonderfully captured too. Great image, well done on your top ten placing.
A beautiful image, perfectly conveying the chill of winter. Whilst the sky indicates an approaching storm, there is a feel of tranquility about the scene, maybe the calm before the storm? Composition of the image and viewpiont is great, with the wire fence snaking through the image into the far distance. I love the little glimpses of details, such as the tufts of grass poking through the snow and the patterns on the bare patch of land in the foreground, which help prevent the image looking too sterile. Well controlled exposure in a scene dominated by white. Great work, well done on your top ten placing.

This contest is for your photos of wire. Wire is formed of metal which has been pulled into a long strand. Images could show wire in any of many uses, such as barbed wire or wire mesh fencing, electrical wiring in a plug, or power cables running between electricity pylons or telegraph wires running to buildings. Photos can show wire as a close-up or a more distant part of a street scene or landscape, but the wire should be an obvious feature of your photo. Entries can be in colour or black and white.
