A photograph that seems so timely given the the formation of these mythical lights been seen across the world these last two nights. The framing is perfect as it would have been easy for the photographer to get carried away and just photography the sky but the inclusion of the land and the wonderful reflection of the moons light on the water really takes the image to another level formally. Stunning technique and capture. really well done. Very close to my top 10.

If any image can make us think that we are not alone or ponder the universe and our own existence this is it. A unique image that makes us think whilst also staring into this spectacular sky and remembering we are looking at a a fantastic photograph. I could imagine this giant on a screen in a cinema. I could look at it for hours. On a personal note. I would have liked further information to go with the image and I cant make out what the white line is at the bottom of the frame. These are really minor points as this is a fantastic and well crafted photograph. Well done.

Energy and the power of the ocean against the unrivaled commitment of the Gentoo's to break from the beach and into the blue deep waters is here for all to see in this stunning and wonderfully timed and captured image. It shows all the beauty of nature and the difficulties that the planet throws at us in this case these penguins. It's a photograph that is wonderfully framed and we can only cheer them on and hope that they succeed. Great capture.

Almost like the scientific photographs made famous by Harold doc Edgerton using strobe lighting to create images of milk drops caught in motion and speeding arrows this unique image really stood out in the entire competition. We see the shattering of the rose petals against the dark background which is incredibly effective especially as they seem to be blowing out of frame as if caught in the wind. The quality of light is perfect and this is an incredible example of technique and subject matter working so well together. Wonderful capture.

We associate energy with the power of the natural world and noise with the world we create. I love the quietness of this tranquil scene. It's a calming photograph beautifully captured by the photographer. The soft colors work really well and it's hard to make out where the sea ends and the sky begins and I think that is such a wonderful part of this picture. It could be a painting by Monet. Stunning.

This really stood out for its beauty. I've never seen anything really like this. The way the photographer has captured the horses in unison, the stunning highlights on the manes and the position the photographer must have taken in the water to capture this image really is first rate. The soft black and white tones work so well especially against the darker soft grey sky. Technically superb and the sharpness of the animals as they speed through the frame is wonderful. The positioning from the left galloping into frame works very well as it leads our eye across the entire frame. A stunning capture. Very well done.

This is such a contemporary photograph. The saturated colors, the use of the blurred fencing in the foreground which does several things from framing the industrial buildings whilst also stating that we or the photographer are not welcome into this space. We are the outsiders and the image is stronger for taking that position. Great capture.

Stunning technique. This was really close to my top 10. I love the framing and neutral colors of the background against the speeding black dog. Full of determination which has been captured by the photographer to the highest standards. It would be a really interesting picture without the dog but the animal is the star of photograph. Superb capture. Well done.

A stunning example of color photography and wonderful technique. The sense of movement and drama of the dance is apparent looking at the image. The turquoise color in the clothes is beautifully and skillfully used also in the blurred background which adds a continuity to the entire picture. The twirls and positioning of the dancer works really well and the head positioning looking out of camera adds gesture to the performance. Such a well crafted photograph. The more I look at it the more I see and love it more. Beautiful. Well done.

Another wonderful example of how jets can be fantastic subject matter in the right hands. The photographer has not been tempted to get to close to the jets with a telephoto lens but has allowed the planes to work within a larger frame. This allows us the viewers to see the beauty and formations which the jets take in this wonderful swallow like dive. The use of black and white works really well and creates a real sense of drama. The swirling dark clouds against the plumes of smoke from the jets really comes alive and turns this image into a haunting yet beautiful photograph. It's just stunning. Great capture.

This image showing the power and ferocity of the ocean really stood out from many seascapes within the competition. What works so well is that we the viewers and head on in the direction of the water. Their is no escape for us and the wonderful rock like formations in the foreground give the image a prehistoric feel to the entire scene. It could be from any time period. The quality of light rolling over the scene works so well as does the use of high contrast which just adds to the energy of the subject. Wonderful photograph. It would look amazing large on a gallery wall where we feel we are set within the space. Really well done.

An incredible photograph. It takes me back to the photographers who photographed the dust bowl areas of America in the 30s and 40s including icons like Dorothea Lange and Walker Evans. I love the way the clouds hang over the entire frame low enough to have the clear sky above all set with this small building underneath looking so small against the power and energy of the natural forces. The use of black and white works so well as it situates the image within the tradition of documentary photography and the exposure and framing are first rate. The photographer has captured a special image that would look great within the walls of a major gallery. I hope this is part of a larger body of work. Wonderful.

The movement and slow shutter speed has created a real sense of energy within this picture. The abstract quality and tight crop works really well and the way the neutral black and white waves in the foreground eventually turn aqua marine as we take our eye to the center of the frame is stunning. Against the jet black background this seascape is transformed into a raging torrent of energy. It's a truly unique and stunning photograph that speaks about the power of the ocean and natural world. Great capture.

Quite an amazing capture. It really is unique and not the type of image you see very often. It really stood out as a one off in the entire competition. The quality of light on the plane coming from the moon is wonderful and really shows us the power and energy of satellites near planets. The framing is spot on and the energy trail from the plane really adds to the formal picture qualities of this photograph. The deep blue background works so well and really frames the moon in this unique picture. Well done.

This image really stood out against the many entries of planes within the competition. The standard was very high but this just captured the raw energy of the jets and the trails they leave behind. The smoke works so well against the blue sky and clouds and the positioning of the planes in the bottom right corner is a brave choice as they don't take center stage but the overall composition works so well as the smoke leads our eye to the jets. It could almost be a painting.Powerful and evocative. Full of energy. Well done.
