The mirroring of the legs of the statue and the runner is what makes this image. The photographer's timing was spot on! In this situation you have to react quickly and grab the shot or it's gone but in an ideal world the heel of the runner and the toe of the statue would not have been clipped. The pigeon on top of the clock is a nice touch!
An intriguing image that asks a lot of questions but offers no answers. What's going on? The guy stabing his finger - to make his point? Why is the policeman there (Looking bored)? Is that a TV camera man? The semi circle of foreground figures makes a great focal point for this busy central London scene and B&W is the perfect medium. Well seen and captured.
A well captured, interesting, candid moment which is what Street Photography is all about. The connection between the figure on the poster and the lady is well seen. I wonder how long the photographer had to wait for this scene to come together? The placing of the lady is just right. I wonder if the White Balance could be adjusted to get rid of the 'yellowness' ?
I'm not usually a fan of photos of homeless people reduced to begging the street but the composition here demands one's attention. The shaft of light coming down from the top left hand corner and falling on the upturned face is powerful. The shadows of the green fence also lead us to the figure from the other direction.
This image is so full of humour it makes me smile every time I view it. The girl in the poster apparently covering her ears against the sound of the pipes. And that look on her face! The piper is well placed against the white background. The wording ' There is only one' plays an important compositional role - does it refer to the piper?
All the elements in this picture come together to tell a good story. The well placed figure, with the raised brolly for protection from the snow, waiting for the construction to be complete so they can take shelter! The subdued colours capture the mood well. There are many strong compositional elements - the silver frame coming in from the top left hand corner sweeps down into the picture to come down in a vertical line behind the figure, concentrating the eye on the figure and the wording. The bollard is a good foil for the figure. Excellent Street!
A very good example of the 'fishing' technique. Find an interesting canvas, set everything up on your camera, then patiently wait for something to happen to make the picture pop ! The four mannequins lead the eye to the open doorway and the square beyond. The four heads and the four knees create invisible diagonal lines that lead in to the figure. The fact that he is slightly blurred adds an extra element. Is he trying to hurry away from the mannequins?
This is an excellent example of the genre - an interesting candid moment in a public space - with many strong compositional elements. The placing of the figure on the left. Her half lit face mirroring that in the top centre. The shadow of the head in the bottom right hand corner creates a diagonal line with the head itself. There are 3 triangles of light - around the woman's head, around the shadow of her head and in the top right hand corner. To get all these elements in place reqiured perfect timing. It's a wonderfuly complex image and is, for me, Street at is best!
The split second timing of this is what makes the image. I wonder how many near misses the author had! Another important element is the fact that the passer by is wearing clothing that is in harmony with the image on the poster and is walking in the right direction. You do, for a brief moment, believe that it is a whole person. A humorous image would have been to capture a woman in a dress and high heels but maybe the author has one of those as well.
This is a picture full of contrasts. The middle aged men covered from head to toe in heavy garments and walking to the right of the frame and then the young woman in a skimpy dress walking in the opposite direction. Although they are close together in the street they are, in every other way, miles apart!

In this contest I look forward to seeing your photos on the theme of street photography. There are many definitions of street photography such as "candid public photography" and "artistic reaction to a candid moment". The image needs to be interesting too, not simply a photograph of someone or something in a street. Please remember that street photography is not restricted only to the streets; images can be captured in any public space.
There are a number of important elements in this image. The bright red brolly against the subdued red paving. The circular drain cover, the shadow of the brolly and the brolly itself form an unseen triangle. On the left hand third we have the small rectangle at the top of the picture with the shadow leading us down to the shadow rectangle and then the rectangular drain cover. What at first glance looks a very simple scene ia actually a complex and interesting image. Well seen and waited for!
