How have we humans measured the passing of time, and the exact time at any one moment? Clocks, watches and nowadays mobile phones, of course. But did you also know that obelisks were used by the Ancient Egyptians as a kind of giant shadow clock, or sundial, and what about advent candles, stone circles, and hourglasses, which all measure time in different ways.
There's something so clean and timeless (forgive the pun) about this image, I love it. the tone of the sky as it shifts across frame is beautiful. The colour of this and the rest of the image really work incredibly well together. The light and simplicity remind me of Marcus Doyles photography. I can really tell consideration has gone into the composition with centring and straightening everything correctly; something critical in a picture like this. A lovely photo, well done.
I just really loved everything about this image. The lighting is beautiful and really gives this regal softness to the picture. on the clock itself the highlights are so gentle and soft. And the way you have the cast of light down the background makes the subject stand out beautifully. The colours also add to this overall feeling created by the light. A great photograph well done.
What great timing here. I just love all that frozen action in the scene. I think the composition is quite strong too. The perfect lines of stonework and block colours of the grass and sea work really well together. I might have considered cropping the top of the frame a little though. I find the speed boat and buoy a little distracting. Still though the rest of the picture is immaculate. Lovely work, well done.
There are two things that really drew me to this picture. Firstly the lighting is amazing, it's incredibly hard to shoot watches well. Making sure you have clean highlights and no unwanted reflections is tricky. Not only has that been achieved here I think the texture and angle of light is interesting and different. Very top lit so you get this lovely contrast between the bright highlights in the top half of the bezel and the dark numbers on the bottom half.
The second thing that drew me in is imperfection in the slightly rusty patina of the bezel. I love the subtlety, it adds real character and tells a story. Very different to dust and smudges, it's a part of the watch. Giving it it's own identity. beautiful work well done.
I think having an old rusty timepiece is a much more interesting subject than a nice new clean one. Here there is a story to tell it's no longer just an object. Also this is technically very proficient. Super clean black background and a nice light to create just the right highlight and show off all the details of the mechanism. And for me the rust not only adds this story but also a beautiful texture and colour. Great work well done.

I wanted to write this review mostly to say this is hands down the best picture of the Eastgate and Eastgate clock I saw in this competition, and there were many. It's a great example of how just having a point of interest in an image doesn't make it a good photograph. This however is a fantastic photograph. The lighting, angle and wet ground particularly come together to make something really wonderful. Beautiful work well done.
There was something about the composition and lighting I found captivating here. The low angle giving interesting distortions through the glass of the face. And using the light to give a very subtle highlight on the glass giving it a hazy, dreamlike feel. That coupled with the lovely colour grade you have used and you've got a really fantastic image. Well done.
What I really liked about this picture is it made my eyes feel a bit funny. The way your brain takes a minute to work out which building is in front. And even then it feels like there's a bit of a mental battle going on the whole time you look at it. The use of monochrome really highlights this optical illusion. I also really appreciate how perfectly lined up everything is within the frame and the frame itself, something critical in a photograph like this. Amazing work well done.
This has to be the most technically perfect image I've seen in this competition. Flawless and beautifully soft highlights on the strap and bezel; plus no reflection on the face is a real achievement. The water adds a really interesting dynamic too. And to top it all of it being shot on 5x4 in a single frame is just incredible. Congratulations, wonderful work.
I thought the lighting was executed particularly well here. Getting those highlights so soft and even is no mean feat. It's also more interesting having the subject in an environment rather than just on its own. However I do find the carabiner a little distracting. It's a little bright compared to the rest of the background and destabilises the image a little. That being said it's still a great photo. Good work.
Wow what a shot! Such an incredible angle to see Stonehenge from. You really get a much better view of the arrangement of the stones. That coupled with perfect timing of early morning which gives you an beautiful absence of crowds and that phenomenal light with the stones casting those perfect shadows. Amazing work well done.
