How could I fail to miss these four smiling faces? A family about to set off, full of anticipation and captured within the tightly-cropped frame of a carriage window. There’s everything here to help you share their occasion. Thank you for sharing it!

Two excited boys, dressed-up for the occasion and full of anticipation. The chance (?) reflection reveals more about the scene as they prepare to leave. This capture is telling a story and the title provides more about the theme. This is a grand image and, by the look of the blue sky, I’m assuming that it turned out to be a grand day out. Congratulations on gaining my second placing!

The title suggests that the window is the subject of this composition but, to me, it’s clearly the scene. I wish my garden looked as good as this but perhaps this one’s not yours either? Never-the-less, this is an extremely nicely-presented image. Thanks for entering and congratulations on reaching my top ten.

I love this bright and crisp image. The colourful vase in the foreground caught my eye, to then lead it up and out through the window to the wooden shelter in the background, whilst shadows provide added interest to the frame. This is very well composed and is why it earns a place in my top ten.

Most might have captured this moment from the deck in these circumstances but the inclusion of the porthole and guardrail beyond adds value to the occasion by telling me that it was taken from a vessel at sea. A promising start to a voyage, perhaps, and a great shot to start a story with…

This is a lovely image, although I found myself focusing more on the delightful foreground than the view through the window. For that reason alone it missed out on my top ten but still gains a highly commended. I like the inclusion of the young lady sitting on the sill and admiring the trees with the viewer.

I like the way that the window frame has been used here, to focus on a private moment between a mother teaching and a daughter learning. The remainder of the frame provides some incidental information to set the scene, whilst the title confirms that the lesson is a culinary one.

This is a wonderfully detailed image of an industrial back yard (and even what appears to be a plastic owl). By including the window, I can see that this was taken from a similar bridge between the buildings as can be seen straight ahead. A good shot is one you can look at, at length, discovering more as you do so and this is such an image. Well done!

I like an image with an imaginative title. Indeed, I feel that no image is complete without some form of caption. This shot grabbed my attention with the bright clothing and then to study the stark contrast between the toys and the state of the window frame.

A problem with using a frame is that it may not provide the right aspect ratio for the scene. I like the way the inwardly opening windows have been included here to provide a landscape view. The subdued reflections guide the eye towards the scene beyond without distracting, yet providing some additional interest.

I would like to see your photos taken through a window, which have the window frame included in the photo. These can be either looking in or out. Framing a scene can complete a picture and add to its interest, so I am looking forward to seeing your images.
