People Showing a Sense of Adventure

There were many great images of rock climbers entered in this contest, but this one really stood out. The composition works really well, with the climber positioned nicely in the frame. I love that we see a good amount of the sheer rockface, but also the climber is large enough in the frame for some idea as to the effort involved in the climb to be conveyed. Caught at just the right moment too, with thd climber in a dynamic pose indicating the skill and effort involved. Congratulations on your winning image.

Wow! What a stunning location, the perfect place for a hardy adventurer to explore and experience. The image description gives no hint as to the setting, but it looks to maybe be a deep fissure in a glacier? Lighting conditions look to be very challenging and the exposure has been well balanced to overcome this. I am a little unsure whether the colours, especially the brown, are as seen, but the image is certainly stunning and an inspiration for any adventurous traveller. This image really does convey a sense of adventure, as the kayakers travel through the fast-flowing water passing through the narrow channels to discover what may lie around the next bend in the river. The kayakers are well placed in the frame, being large enough to be easy to spot, but small enough to allow plenty of the surrounding rocky and watery landscape to be appreciated. Lighting conditions look tricky, but shadows have been suitably lifted to convey the details and freshness of the scene. Well done on your top ten placing.

What a stunning image. It is great that we not only see the adventurer but a grand view of the beautiful landscape laid out below. The red jacket stands out well to initially draw the eye, before looking beyond to explore the valleys below and looming mountain in the distance. Lighting is lovely, cool with a hint of golden glow, conveying the chill of the scene. Congratulations on your third place finish.

As we have a close-in view of the climber we cannot know the height to which he is climbing, but by including a glimpse of the landscape beyond the rockface, we get the impression he must be more than a couple of feet off the ground! The strength and effort required to climb is well portrayed, along with the all-important spirit of adventure of the physical and psychological challenge.
